Collar pins are not a new idea, but the idea of women wearing them or men wearing a feminine version is. Historically a masculine form of jewelry, in the same family as collar bars and clips, collar pins have been fashionably dapper.
I first saw collar pins on Pinterest. Some were pins of collar pins sold on Etsy and eBay and others were DIY. I was excited to try this reinvented form of jewelry on one of my shirt dresses. I received so many comments. Everyone was surprised how cute and fashionable they looked, turning a plain collared shirt dress into something "Instagram worthy."
When first starting Jazzelli, I was excited for us to make collar pins with shrink plastic and sourced chains. After graduating to enamel, I was even more so. I loved the idea of accessorizing your collar or even going out of your way to add collars to outfits you may not have thought adding them to.
I was drawn to collar pins as they are in between masculine and feminine. There is something utterly feminine about the neck and collarbone area. There is also something masculine about covering it up and decking it out with a collar. Collar pins have a way of combing both femininity and masculinity in a refreshing way.
As Jazzelli grew, it quickly became apparent that our true interest and niche was in collar pins. Don't get me wrong, there are other sellers out there making collar pins and even some of the big fast fashion retailers have made a pair here or there, but we felt like collar pins could truly become the new necklace. What they needed was the right design, styling, and customer (looking at you reader!) to turn it from idea to trend.
Over the past six months, we've been designing our collar pins, sourcing chains, and planning outfits and lookbooks. We're so excited to finally share the re-launch of jazzelli. We have 13 collar pins, some without chains and others with.
Here at Jazzelli, our mission is to be the authority on collars, continuously pushing the boundaries of jewelry and how it's represented and to inspire others to have fun with what they wear.
